Screencast-o-matic is a piece of software desinged to make screen recording easy (and maybe even fun).

There are many screen recording options out there, but Screencast-o-matic has a lot of unique features we'll cover. After a quick setup, it's ready to go. The user can record their whole screen or pick a selected region to record. Screencast-o-matic can also record sound, but first make sure you have a compatible sound card!

The user can use shortcuts or macros to control recording stopping and starting. After everything has been recorded, Screencast-o-matic also takes care of post-processing and transcoding. Using FFMPEG as its base, the software lets the user put in the quality and format of the output. It gives a responsive display of the time remaining to finish transcoding, and then the user is supplied with the final video, which can be exported to social media or be kept for personal use.

One nice feature is that there is no watermark on the final video. Most video recorders (even some freeware) will insert a watermark to advertise their product. Screencast-o-matic also enables recording voiceover, which is perfect for users who are making tutorials or other instructional videos. All-in-all, Screencast-o-matic is a sturdy product.

One final thing to note is that on our test computers, we experienced some problems with the program's stability (i.e. it may be prone to crashes), especially during the transcoding process. Be careful to ensure that you have backup options in case Screencast-o-matic fails you (Final score 4/5).
